Common questions
Can you remove or whiten my background?
Not for a US passport. The State Department says photos must be original and unedited, and lists background cut-outs as unacceptable. Stand in front of a plain white or off-white wall and we will tell you if it is good enough.
What head size does a US passport photo need?
1 to 1 3/8 inches (25–35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head on a 2 × 2 inch photo. We measure this automatically.
Can I wear glasses?
No. Glasses are only allowed for documented medical reasons with a signed doctor’s statement.
How do I print it?
Download the 4 × 6 inch sheet and print it at any photo kiosk (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart) as a normal 4 × 6 print. Do not choose “fit to page” – print at 100%.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Face detection, cropping and all checks run inside your browser. Your photo is never sent to our servers.
Is acceptance guaranteed?
No one outside the issuing authority can guarantee acceptance. We check the measurable rules (size, head height, eye line, background, light, sharpness) so you can catch problems before you submit.
