UK passport photo (digital + 35 × 45 mm print)
GOV.UK needs an unaltered colour photo, at least 600 × 750 px, against a plain light background with no shadows. We check your photo against those rules and give you a correctly framed digital file and a 35 × 45 mm print sheet.

Common questions
Should I upload a cropped photo to GOV.UK?
If you take the photo on your own device during the online application, GOV.UK asks for an uncropped photo showing head, shoulders and upper body and crops it itself. Use our checks to make sure the original passes, then upload the original. Our cropped file is useful for printed forms and other services.
Can I wear glasses?
Only if you have to. No sunglasses or tinted lenses, and no glare or frames over the eyes.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Face detection, cropping and all checks run inside your browser. Your photo is never sent to our servers.
Is acceptance guaranteed?
No one outside the issuing authority can guarantee acceptance. We check the measurable rules (size, head height, eye line, background, light, sharpness) so you can catch problems before you submit.
